When Top of the Pops began in the sixties, it brought some of the biggest names in music into people's living rooms. It made stars of its in house dance troupe, Pans People. In an era before music videos, the dancers were hired to fill in for absent bands but in the process the six members of Pans People became better known than many of the records they danced to.
