Pope Francis calls for more equal distribution of wealth in the world

Pope Francis is continuing to make his mark as Pontiff.

He has just published his first major work in which he describes unfettered capitalism as “a new tyranny” and warns that unequal distribution of wealth inevitably leads to violence.

The 84 page ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ or ‘Apostolic Exhortation’ urges global leaders to fight poverty and rich people to share their money.

Since becoming Pope, Francis has encouraged austerity in the Church, setting an example by choosing to live in a Vatican guest house rather than the Apostolic Palace.

In the document, the 76-year-old also calls for power to be devolved away from the Vatican.

For some issues however, there was no new line. The document insists women can never be ordained priests and the Catholic church cannot accept abortion.
