Technology is changing everything around us. And that includes the fine pen shops.

Technology is changing everything around us.

And that includes the fine pen shops. On a daily basis, people don’t really use the writing instrument as much as they used to, opting to tweet, email, or text instead.

Once people bought them out of necessity, but now it seems they’ve been relegated to the categories of accessory, luxury item, and a reminder of simpler times.

Unfortunately, that love of old-timey things doesn’t seem to include actually walking into a brick and mortar store to get one.

Among the more recent shops to lock up for good was New York City’s historic, century-old Art Brown International Pen Shop.

Still holding on, however, after 90 years of business is Milwaukee’s Daly Pen Shop.

The owner admits that in recent years his store business has been cut in half, but says he’s been able to stay afloat by expanding into online sales.

Much of the store’s staying power is also due to his loyal clientele.

He said, "…there's a core group of people for whom pens are just embedded into their soul…”

When was the last time you used a fine pen for writing?
