A trio of crooks in Queensland, Australia may have been injured after an ATM exploded because the suspects filled the machine with gas and lit it.
It’s stunning how far some thieves will go in order to make off with vast amounts of cash. A trio of crooks in Queensland, Australia found themselves in trouble when an ATM exploded after they allegedly filled the machine with gas and lit it.
According to a police spokesperson “Around 2.25am a wall mounted ATM at Reserve Road was filled with gas and ignited causing a fire and extensive damage to the machine and smoke damage to businesses.”
Directly following the explosion, the men were able to flee the scene in a light colored vehicle, however they didn’t get to take any cash with them. The suspects covered their faces with cloth during the crime.
A local resident claimed that several ATMs in the same center had been targeted in the past, due to the isolation of the shopping center. Some hope the ATM won’t be replaced as the thieving attempts commonly damage the surrounding shops and businesses.
Police plan to release additional information about the crime in the near future.
