Now, Toronto City Council has voted to strip Mayor Rob Ford of some powers, in a system that has very few legal means to remove him from office.
(SOUNDBITE)(English) TORONTO MAYOR ROB FORD, SAYING:
"I completely understand the situation that my fellow colleagues are in and if it wouldn't cost the taxpayers an arm and a leg which obviously it's going to, I would have done the same thing. If I had a mayor acting the way I conducted myself I would have done the exact same thing."
Council voted 39 to 3 to suspend the mayor's ability to appoint and dismiss the deputy mayor and the heads of council committees.
