[ISS] Launch of Olympic Torch & Three Members Crew Into Space in Soyuz TMA-11M

For the first time ever, the Olympic torch as part of the Russian Winter Olympics 2013 relay has blasted off into space on a four day adventure at 04:14 UTC on November 7th 2013. Expedition 38 crew members Russian Cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin, American Astronaut Richard Mastracchio and Japanese Astronaut Koichi Wakata launched with the torch in their Soyuz TMA-11M Spaceceaft from Baikonur in Kazakhstan in a Soyuz-FG rocket.



They will dock to the International Space Station later tonight and greet the six crew members already onboard the complex - a record since 2009.



On November 9th Russian Cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky will take a spacewalk outside with the Olympic Torch providing photo opportunities. The torch will return to Earth on November 10th as Expedition 37 crew members Fyodor Yurchikhin, Karen L. Nyberg and Luca Parmitano depart in their Soyuz TMA-09M Spacecraft.
