So you're charged with a DUI and now you have the task of having to hire an attorney to represent you. It's not even a question. You need to have an attorney to represent you in this hearing.
Hi. My name is Mark Rollins and come join me while we talk about hiring a DUI lawyer.
Yes, it's important to have a good relationship with your attorney and understandably so, you're working with him. However, one of the most important factors to look at in hiring an attorney for your DUI case is "Has that attorney taken a DWI Detection Standardized Field Sobriety Course?" This course is based on the National Standardized Field Sobriety Course that's offered by the US Department of Transportation. The Standardized Field Sobriety Test or a national recognized test that every officer who stops you should have taken.
In fact if the officer has not taken the course, he should not be administering the test. You ask yourself, "Why would my attorney take the exact same course the police officers take?" Well, you're training to be familiar with the national standards of conducting a field sobriety test and make sure that the police officers have followed the national standardized procedure.
If the attorney has not taken the course, how could the attorney properly advice you whether you pass the Standardized Field Sobriety Test? The attorney who has not taken the course, well some have argued that it's even malpractice to take DUI case if he hasn't taken the course. I wouldn't go that far. However, it's important that you at least ask your attorney is he familiar with the Standardized Field Sobriety Test, the course, and whether the officers passed it.
In my office, both me and my partner have taken the course, and of course we have scored high scores because you have to pass the test in order to pass the class.
