The Boston Red Sox finally won the World Series in front of a home crowd destroying the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1, in front of a sellout crowd of 38,477 at Fenway Park.

The last time the Sox won the Series at home was in 1918. This is the third time Boston has won the World Series in the last 10 years. This win was extra special for loyal Red Sox fans as they were actual able to see it with their own eyes. Ticket prices for Game 6 were pretty astronomical. The average price on the resale market for one ticket was up to $2,056 by Wednesday morning. The average price for a ticket was $1,047. One super fan even paid $24,000 for two tickets in the first row in a dugout box between home plate and one of the on-deck circles over StubHub.

Shane Victorino, who returned from a stiff back, got the Red Sox on the board first with a three-run double off the Green Monster against Michael Wacha in the third inning.

John Lackey for the Sox became the first pitcher to start and win a Series decider for two different teams. Lackey allowed one run over 6 ⅔ innings.

Japanese closer Koji Uehara struck out Cardinal's Matt Carpenter for the last out. Uehara then jumped in to the arms of catcher David Ross while Red Sox players charged out onto the field from the dugout. The Boston theme "Dirty Water" played over the speakers as the stadium erupted in cheers.

Ortiz led the team throughout Series with a .688 batting average and was also chosen for his first World Series MVP.
