Simon Singh, the author of a new book called The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets claims that the show uses math in many of its episodes.

One of the writers of the TV show, David X. Cohen is a mathematician who has reportedly written serious academic research papers on the subject.

And there are other writers from ‘The Simpsons’ who also have academic training in mathematics, one being a Yale professor and another with a Ph.D in math.

In his book, Singh picks out many math references from different episodes, to show that math is a recurring theme in ‘The Simpsons.’

One example that piqued Singh’s interest is in the episode entitled ‘The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace,’ where the character Homer Simpson is standing in front of a black board with an equation relating to Fermat’s last theorem written on it.
