ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION

Costa Rica's Coast Guard on Sunday (October 27) seized at least 1,275 kilograms (2,810 pounds) of cocaine in Puerto Limon on board a boat off the Caribbean coast.

The Coast Guard intercepted the 200-horsepower vessel when it was out at sea while patrolling the area, after being alerted to the presence of the boat.

The crew beached the vessel in Playa Negra, Limon and then fled the scene abandoning the 45 cocaine packages.

According to local media, police found a Colombian passport in the vessel.

Officials said Costa Rica was just a stepping stone and not the final destination for the cocaine.

No arrests were made and the smugglers are still on the loose.
