Spanish footballers announce strike

Madrid, 12 Aug (EFE).- The Spanish Footballers Association announced on Thursday the decision by all first and second division players to go on strike for first two league games of the 2011-2012 season. Association president Luis Rubiales, accompanied by Spain internationals Iker Casillas, Carles Puyol, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Llorente, Javi Martinez, Santi Cazorla and Carlos Marchena, said the players are calling for a larger fund to cover unpaid wages and preventative measures similar to those found in other European countries to exclude clubs that fail to pay its players.
