Kerry voices doubts on Iran role in Geneva talks on Syria

As the war rages in Syria, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Paris says he does not see Iran playing a constructive role in Syria.

The so-called Geneva 2 talks could come at the end of November.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE, JOHN KERRY, SAYING:

"Iran has not accepted the implementation of Geneva 1. So it is very hard to see how Iran can be constructive in the absence of their willingness to come for the purpose of the negotiation. So if they accept Geneva 1 and want to be constructive in helping to set up a transition government, that's a different issue. But until that happens, it would be very difficult to see how it could be constructive."

Kerry is in France following a report in Le Monde that outlined the depth and breadth of alleged spying on French citizens by the U.S. National Security Agency.
