More than two decades after the fall of communism, Hungarian prosecutors have charged a former party official with war crimes.

Bela Biszku, 92, was detained last year over his role in the suppression of the anti-Soviet uprising in 1956.

Biszku is facing charges due to a change in law that stipulates war crimes and crimes against humanity do not lapse.
