The food industry is undergoing a massive transformation in terms of how food is sourced and served.

A move towards restaurants being located in gas stations is becoming popular in the Washington D.C. area.
A variety of ethnic food restaurants have found homes adjoining gas stations, or in food trucks that are parked in gas station lots.

Some of the restaurants are getting attention for serving better meals than what most people would expect to eat when they get food from the gas station.

Startup restaurants are saving money by partnering up with locally owned gas stations to have mutual customer traffic.

Colonel Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken at a gas station in Corbin, Kentucky and now it is one of the biggest fast food chains in the world.

Rodrigo Albarran, owner of R&R Taqueria, an expanding chain of Mexican restaurants, said: “It’s not the location; it’s the food. If you serve good food, people will find you no matter where you are.”

Jeff Lenard, from the National Association of Convenience Stores, will reportedly be at their annual trade show encouraging owners of the 149 thousand gas stations and convenience stores in the US to expand their revenue potential by introducing a signature food restaurant at their location.
