Many middle schools in China have decided to put a plug in blossoming of young love and are establishing rules to make sure romance doesn’t happen.

From Romeo & Juliet to Twilight, adolescent romance has long been recognized as a rich source for drama.

Well, many middle schools in China have decided to put a plug in that endless font and are establishing rules to make sure young love doesn’t blossom.

Some of the rules are vague, such as an eastern school’s prohibition on “close interaction” with all students regardless of gender.

What’s meant by that is unspecified by the administration.

Other institutions have defined that interaction down to the inch, issuing a ban from all students of different sexes to be within 1.64 feet of one another.

Travelling in boy girl pairs is also strictly forbidden.

The rules are said to be based in the concern that the tweens may suffer academically if they become involved in relationships.

Given that secondary school students are in the throes of a pre-pubescent hormonal storm, some authorities feel nothing good can come of early love.

Not all agree, however, and many have taken to publicly denouncing the preventative measures calling them everything from “barbaric and oppressive” to “absurd, ridiculous, and illegal”.
