Law enforcement authorities recently issued an official warning to the public following a theft of radioactive items.

While much of the world is focused on Fukushima’s high radioactive levels, Irish police have encountered a situation of their own.

Law enforcement authorities recently issued an official warning to the public following a theft of radioactive items. Suspects reportedly swiped seven lightning preventers, which were stored in a red metal box, during a burglary in County Dublin, Ireland.

While it’s not yet known who the culprits are, members of the public, members of the public, along with the thieves have been warned not to go near or touch the lightening preventers. The items are classified as “highly dangerous”.

According to local police, the stolen pieces resemble aluminum or steel but they have absolutely no scrap value whatsoever. Law enforcement authorities have asked anyone who stumbles across the lightening preventers to contact the police department immediately or the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland in Dublin.

They also expressed how vitally important it is to locate the pieces in a timely manner. If people get in close proximity to the radioactive material, they could expose themselves to high radiation levels and put their health at a significant risk.
