Utah beauty queen arrested after alleged homemade bomb-throwing spree

After a homemade bomb-throwing spree, Utah beauty queen Kendra Gill, crowned Miss Riverton in June, and three friends were arrested on Saturday just outside Salt Lake City.

The pageant winner allegedly helped make homemade bombs that, according to investigators, were constructed from household chemicals, aluminum foil and plastic water bottles.

The teens allegedly targeted people and homes in a Riverton neighborhood.

Witnesses heard what sounded like explosions and gunshots and reported seeing the devices thrown from a dark-colored vehicle. Investigators were told by a resident of one of the targeted homes that Bryce Stone, Gill's former boyfriend, owned a vehicle matching the description.

Stone later told investigators he was just "pranking' with fireworks with friends".

Captain Clint Mecham of the Unified Fire Authority, however, viewed the teenage troupe's bomb-fueled escapades somewhat differently.

"We call them chemical reaction bombs," he told Fox 13 News. "They're a cocktail of reactive chemicals, that when they react with each other and when you put that large volume of gas in a closed container, it ruptures the container and creates an explosion."

"They were actually throwing these at people with the intent to cause harm, with the intent to cause harm to either people or property: This goes well beyond a teenage prank, Mecham said."

The teens were each released on Sunday on a $50,000 bail. Sadly for Gill, the $2,000 she received as in winnings as pageant winner, is designated for college scholarship and probably couldn't be used as collateral when she posted bail.

If her case ends up in court, hopefully Gill can wow county judges with a different kind of song and dance number.
