Israelis praise Netanyahu's U.N. speech, say country is ready for Iran

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU, SAYING:

"If you want to knock out Iran's nuclear weapons peacefully, don't let up the pressure."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's message at the United Nations was clear... Iran's new president Hassan Rouhani cannot be trusted.

Netanyahu's combative address reflected Israeli worries that emerging signs of U.S.-Iranian rapprochement might lead to a premature easing of sanctions against Iran.

For Israelis in Jerusalem, the speech was a sign the country is willing and capable of attacking Iran on its own, if necessary.

(SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) ISRAELI RESIDENT AMI GAT, SAYING:

"I am not a big fan of Bibi, but the speech was excellent. And I say, as someone who grew up here, if we need to do this on our own, we'll do it, we won't have a choice."

Netanyahu's speech comes as the crisis in Syria continues to threaten the stability of the region.
