US President Barack Obama has spoken on the phone to Iranian President Hassan Rohani - the highest-level contact between the US and Iran since 1979.

Obama said of the historic call: "Just now I spoke on the phone with President Rohani of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The two of us discussed our ongoing efforts to reach an agreement over Iran's nuclear programme."
