At least 59 people have died and 175 people have been injured after armed gunmen faced off with Kenyan police and soldiers inside an upscale Nairobi shopping mall on Saturday.

While witnesses said the attackers were armed with AK-47 rifles and wore ammunition belts, Kenyan officials said that they were making progress in securing the building.
