It's one of the most dangerous stretches of water in Europe, and yet African migrants continue to brave the Strait of Gibraltar to reach the continent. Three times as many illegal immigrants arrived in Spain in the first three months of 2013 compared to the same time in 2012. Many of those sailed in nothing more substantial than inflatable dinghies, hoping they'd be enough to get them across the treacherous waters, which at their narrowest point separate Spain and Morocco by just 13 kilometres.
