Smoke kept pouring from the charred wreckage of a New Jersey shore boardwalk on Friday (September 13), after a fire tore through dozens of businesses, devastating an area hit hard by Superstorm Sandy.
Governor Chris Christie told reporters the fire is 95 percent contained, but firefighters' work continues.

"Today's job is focused solely on putting out the smoldering that is taking place in small pockets along the boardwalk and that may continue for days. As these buildings collapsed, it sometimes hides what they called hot pockets underneath the debris and as that debris begins to remove, those hot spots can flare."
The fire began at a frozen custard stand in Seaside Park on Thursday (September 12) and, fanned by wind gusts that reached 40 miles per hour, raged out of control for hours, moving several blocks into neighboring Seaside Heights.
