Two men in San Antonio landed in court for running a prostitution ring behind a candle storefront.

You never know what happens behind the closed doors of a seemingly legitimate business. Two men in San Antonio landed in court for running a prostitution ring in a storefront they’d officially documented with the city as a candle shop.

22-year-old Joshua Edwards and 21-year-old Malcolm Copeland both pleaded guilty to aggravated promotion of prostitution.

The store was called the Black Stone Relaxation/Day Spa. Advertisements for the company appeared online. The location was in a shopping center that also has a kid’s hair cutting salon, a day care and a magic shop.

Police were originally tipped off last year, after neighboring businesses noticed that only male clients visited the establishment and then the doors of the spa would be locked upon the customers’ arrival.

Last October, police conducted a sting operation. An undercover detective claimed an employee of the spa offered a sexual act for $65. Another female worker was said to be available for what was referred to as “full service”.

The case made it into court. The prosecutor said “This wasn't a massage place or a spa of any legitimacy. It wasn't a full-on brothel, but it was clearly a place where prostitution was acceptable.”
