One cab company in Japan has plans to install a system to make sure that passengers don’t forget personal items like cell phones, wallets or bags when they exit the vehicle.

Kokusai Motorcars Co. will have a camera system put into all of their 31 hundred taxi cabs by next spring, which will cost them around 500 dollars for each vehicle.

The system works by using four cameras that take a picture of the back seat before and after a passenger gets in.

It detects if an item is left behind and sounds an alarm to notify the passenger and driver that there is something in the back seat that wasn’t there at the beginning of the ride.

Last year, 210 thousand items were reportedly left in Tokyo taxis by passengers.

There is already a system in place for passengers to retrieve lost items from taxis in Japan.

If the passenger keeps the receipt for the ride, they can contact the driver to track down their belongings.
