Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Tuesday that if Syria were to go unpunished for the use of chemical weapons, then it would send a message to the world that those weapons can be used with impunity.
Speaking in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, two of the Obama administration's top officials presented their arguments, in an attempt to persuade Congress to approve the President's request for limited military strikes against Syria.
The request stems from the August 21 incident in which the administration says more than 1,400 Syrian civilians, including more than 400 children, were killed in an alleged gassing outside Damascus.
