A group of Spanish labour union workers conducted what they called a Robin Hood style raid at a local supermarket, taking more than $2600 dollars worth of school supplies to give to poor children.

Activists from the Andalusian Workers' Union took pens, erasers, markers, and notebooks from a Carrefour in Seville in southern Spain.

The region is one of the worst hit by the Spanish economic crisis.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPOKESMAN OF THE UNION OF ANDALUSIAN WORKERS (SAT), DIEGO CANAMERO, SAYING:

"There is no money, there are no jobs, people are losing their homes and people have no money. With this gesture today we have taken about eight to ten trollies of school supplies which we will distribute in some school, in some neighbourhood of some village in Andalusia."

Local media reports there were no arrests and that the supermarket hadn't decided whether to press charges.
