A 16-year-old has been arrested for the deadly beating of World War 2 veteran Delbert Belton. He’s been charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree murder.
Police are continuing to search for the other teen believed to be involved. They’ve released the name of the second suspect whom they consider dangerous.
As far as shedding light on the motive, so far all the Spokane Police Chief has to say is, “These are two individuals who for whatever reason went out on a given night to rob someone. They robbed him, they beat him and they killed him.”
On the night of the attack Belton was standing outside of the Eagle’s Lodge in Spokane, Washington waiting to walk a friend home.
What happened while he was out there remains under investigation, but when the police arrived they found him in the parking lot with significant head injuries.
He was rushed to the hospital, but later died when doctors could not stop the bleeding from the blows to his face and head.
His death was soon after classified as a homicide.
