Solar panels are used to heat water in the Himalaya, without the creation of electricity. The copper piping directly heats the water and delivers it to the bathrooms of the guests in this guest house (La Villa Bethany) in Landour, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand state India.

They say the water can potentially heat up as high as 90 degrees Celcius, so this is clearly a very effective system that saves on electricity and pays for itself within a few short years...
