A 25-year-old construction worker was pronounced dead after a trench collapsed.
Construction work is among the toughest jobs out there.
In a horrific report, a 25-year-old construction worker was pronounced dead after a trench collapsed in Severn, Maryland.
The unnamed man was alone in the ditch, which was about 8 feet deep. Tragically, the dirt surrounding the trench caved in and buried the man.
The male had been working with a crew in the backyard of a private residence.
Co-workers said that after the victim jumped in the hole, the soil fell back in too as it was comprised of mostly sand. The construction crew immediately tried to dig it back out, however the surrounding sand just poured into the trench.
The homeowner stated “Every shovel of dirt we'd pull out, four or five would fall back in.” It took over 3 hours to clear the soil from the trench along with 45 personnel from rescue crews, but sadly, it was too late.
Investigators from Maryland Occupational Safety and Health are currently looking into the case to check if the construction company followed proper regulations.
