Italian police have rescued 161 migrants as they were trying to reach the eastern coast of Sicily.

While normally those individuals wanting to enter Europe come from north Africa, this time the group, which included women and children, were from Egypt and Syria.

Police escorted the 25 metre-long rusty fishing boat into a Sicilian port.
