Egypt's interim president has issued a further warning to supporters of the ousted former leader Mohamed Morsi.
In a televised address, Adly Mansour told them they could not stop what he called “the movement of history”.
He said the diplomatic effort to resolve the crisis had failed - setting the stage for what could be a violent confrontation with protesters camped out in Cairo.
Celebrating the end of Ramadan the pro-Morsi protesters camped out in Cairo seemed in no mood to heed the warning of Egypt’s interim president.
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports from Cairo.
