A NASA engineer recently captured a very rare sight. She took a photograph from the International Space Station, showcasing a sunrise in space.

It's remarkable enough to watch a sunrise from Planet Earth, imagine experiencing it from space.

On July 30th, 2013 an Expedition 36 NASA engineer captured a very rare sight.

She took a photograph from the International Space Station, showcasing a sunrise in space. The image doesn’t catch the full sun in all its glory, but just a glimmer of it can be seen.

The strong rays protrude downwards. NASA had a perfect title for the image, calling it ‘First Hint of Sunrise From Space’.

The International Space Station orbits around the Earth every 90 minutes.

It travels at approximately 17,500 miles per hour, meaning the onboard crews gets to witness about 16 sunrises and sunsets on a daily basis.

Breaking it down, that means astronauts can witness the stunning beauty of sunrises and sunsets once every 45 minutes. (

Clearly, the view from space is much different than what we see from the ground.

But...we don't have it too bad on Earth either.
