A new study shows that facial plastic surgery makes people look an average of 3 years younger.
The study looked at 49 subjects, 12 men and 37 women, who all underwent facial plastic surgery at the same clinic in Toronto, Canada.
50 people were asked to rate how old and how attractive they thought the subjects looked based on before and after pictures with no jewelry or makeup.
The subjects were rated at an average of 2 years younger than their actual age before surgery and about 5 years younger after surgery.
A different study found that facelifts could make a person look about seven years younger than their actual age.
Doctor Anthony Youn, a plastic surgeon from Michigan responded to the results by saying: “The big question for me is why does one study show a seven-year reduction versus this one that shows only a three-year reduction? Studies like this are based on opinions, which can vary…Also, this study looked at the results of just one surgeon. If that surgeon was conservative then this could show in the results.”
The variety and number of facial surgeries the subject had also influenced the outcome of the data.
