The state department issues a worldwide alert because of a possible threat from al Qaida. Bloomberg TV reports the unspecified threats involve possible terrorist attacks in the Middle East and North Africa. The AP reports the alert is through August 31 and that state department officials were taking action out of caution. The US is already shutting down embassies througout the muslim world this weekend.
