Hundreds of thousands of people have turned out to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis, as he presided over a "Way of the Cross" service in Rio de Janeiro.

The event, said to commemorate Jesus' final hours, was held at Copacabana beach as part of an international jamboree of young Catholics called World Youth Day.
