Bodies are wheeled into Cairo's Nasser City Hospital on Monday after violent clashes leave at least 42 dead.

The Muslim Brotherhood accused security forces of attacking protesters supporting ousted President Mohamed Mursi at the headquarters of the Republican Guard nearby.

These men say those killed were unarmed and that protesters will retaliate by finishing off the Egyptian army.

Amateur video which Reuters cannot independently verify purports to show the clashes between the protesters, police and the military, that erupted early on Monday.

Meanwhile, Egypt's state TV aired video footage showing supporters of Mursi firing at soldiers during clashes.

The military said 'a terrorist group' tried to storm the Republican Guard headquarters killing one army officer and wounding another 40 soldiers.

They said the soldiers returned fire after being attacked.
