Baghdad residents clean up glass smashed in the explosions of twin bombs that killed one civilian and wounded nine others late Wednesday.

The blasts targeted the capital's southern Dora neighbourhood and damaged nearby shops.

Residents like this man say the government is to blame for not protecting citizens and sowing further sectarian strife between Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims.

The attack is the latest in a series of deadly assaults across the country.

Violence has surged in Iraq since April after military forces raided a Sunni protest camp, angering many and triggering clashes.

Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in the last three months, which has fuelled worries the country will witness a relapse into outright sectarian warfare seen in 2006-2007.
