Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine occupies a strange space in the pantheon of puzzle games. First off, it uses that name that Sega hates and has been trying to retcon out of existence for some time now. Second, for whatever reason, this Puyo Puyo title has been painted-over not just with Sonic characters, but specifically the designs from the ill-fated syndicated Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. (Yeah. Not even the good one.) But despite all that... it is Puyo at its core, and that's a pretty good basis on which to start. Especially on a portable system.
