A roadside bomb exploded under a four-wheel drive vehicle on Friday (June 14) killing eight civilians returning from a funeral ceremony in Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost.
Civilians have borne the brunt of much of the violence in the 11-year conflict.
Violence has been increasing across Afghanistan as the deadline approaches for most foreign combat troops to depart at the end of 2014, leaving the 350,000-strong Afghan security forces in control.
