There are some shelter dogs that just can’t seem to fit in anywhere. This was initially the case for a 5-year-old male Cocker Spaniel named Laddie.

He had been living at the Santa Cruz SPCA for several months, but no one wanted to adopt him, as Laddie didn’t get along well with other dogs. A 12-bed residential facility, the Paget Center decided to take Laddie in.

The manager of the center hoped residents would benefit from having a house dog around full-time.The assistant manager for the Santa Cruz SPCA recommended Laddie, as he was known to show unconditional love towards humans.

The pooch was an instant hit at the facility and he was soon officially adopted. His goal at the establishment is to help comfort military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The manager at the Paget Center stated “The mood in the house is lighter. People who were withdrawn are coming out of their shells. They're taking an interest in walking and feeding him. It's amazing to see the transformation.”
