The UN has launched a new appeal for aid funds for Syria - the biggest humanitarian appeal in history. It has asked
its members to give $3.9bn in new emergency funding.
One billion dollars of that is meant for humanitarian needs inside Syria. Another $2.9bn is for refugees.
A large chunk of this money will go directly to the governments of Lebanon and Jordan, where hundreds of thousands
of refugees have fled.
This new cash will be added to the $1.5bn pledged earlier this year.
Collectively it amounts to more than $5bn for Syria - half of all the money being appealed for around the world.

Speaking about the crisis facing Syria, Amos said that she thinks the credibility of UN is on the line, but that 193 member states, particularly the core five, need to unite on a solution.
