Prime minister who served under Mitterand dies

Former French Prime Minister Pierre Mauroy has died.

Serving under President Mitterand from 1981 to 1984, he oversaw a string of reforms including giving workers more holidays and lowering the retirement age.

He was admitted to hospital in Paris last weekend, a year after surgery for a tumour.

Pierre Mauroy was 84.
