Today, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. We do not know what causes breast cancer, although we do know that certain risk factors may put you at higher risk for developing it. Your age, genetics, health history, and diet all contribute to breast cancer risk.
The most common symptoms of breast cancer that you should look for are:
• A mass or lump in or near the breast or underarm area
• A change in the size, shape, or contour of the breast
• Blood-stained or clear fluid discharge from the nipple
• A change in the feel or appearance of the skin on the breast or nipple
• and a change in the shape or position of the nipple
Dr. Granzow points out that it is best to practice a weekly self-examination of the breasts. This way, you will be familiar with your breasts and be able to notice changes. If changes do occur, you will be more likely to discover them early and be better equipped to treat this disease.
So join us as we simplify this common and treatable disease and arm you with the tools and information you need to combat breast cancer for yourself and those you love.
