Lebanese militant group Hezbollah is fighting alongside the government troops in Syria.

Hezbollah is a Shi'ite Muslim group and it is backing Syria's President Bashar al-Assad who is from the minority Alawite sect - an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam.

During a televised speech, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah confirmed for the first time the group's involvement in the Syria conflict.
