A border crossing between the Kurdish Region of northern Iraq and Syria has become a lifeline for thousands of Syrians. About 150 people seeking refuge or to buy essential supplies cross a river every day, carrying what they can. In Syria there is a shortage of nearly everything, and, for now, the open border allows people to bring back the basic items their families need to survive.
