The US$ was threatened by Saddam Hussein's desire to sell Iraq's oil in Euros, rather than in US Dollars. <br /><br />It is speculated that a main part of the reason for invading Iraq was to take control of Iraq's oil to sell it on the stock market in US Dollars.
