NASA's original Space Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905 departed NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California Tuesday for NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. At Kennedy, the retired space shuttle Discovery will be mounted piggyback atop the modified Boeing 747 in preparation for its ferry flight April 17 to the National Air and Space Museum's Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy center adjacent to Dulles Airport near Washington D.C. The piggyback pair is scheduled to make a low-altitude flyover of several iconic locations in the nation's capital before landing at Dulles Airport.
